Welcome to Stoneraise School!

We are a small, friendly and thriving primary school on the southern rural fringe of Carlisle - not far from the race course. There has been a primary school at Stoneraise since 1874. It started with approximately 40 pupils; we now have more than 160 children, in seven classes. Our vision for our children is: 'Living and learning together to care for each other and our world.' This is what we have been up to recently...

Class Rowan have been learning about Diwali in RE. We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and how the lights guided them home. Hindus use lights to celebrate the festival of light and to remember that light triumphs over dark!

We then had a go at making our own Diya lights! We loved the bright colours and patterns.

Class Rowan have really enjoyed our cozy reading session after completing our Cozy Season Reading Challenge set by Mrs. Clark. 📖 🔥 🍪

The children read four times at home, so as a treat they brought in blankets and we snuggled up by the “fire” with a good book, hot chocolate and a ginger biscuit.

The love of reading has well and truly been ignited in Class Rowan! 🔥 Is there a better time of year to snuggle up and go on great adventures through reading?

This afternoon we welcomed two local magistrates to talk about their roles and to run a mock trial in Class Oak. Earlier in the week we learned about how laws are made in @ukparliament and today we saw how this can be applied. #ukparliamentweek

This week, School Council had a video call with another School Council in Qatar to discuss the similarities and differences between both our countries and schools. One huge difference was the temperature with it being -2 degrees in Carlisle and 32 degrees in Qatar. Also, they are surrounded by deserts and they go to school at 6:30am and finish at 12:30pm as it’s too hot in the afternoon! Fantastic listening School Council and showing respect for different cultures❄️☀️

In Storytime & Craft Club today we enjoyed sharing the story of Paddington and the Tutti Frutti Rainbow, and had so much fun creating Paddington’s hat (complete with a luggage tag from Peru)! Brilliant effort crafters!

Class Maple have been learning all about UK parliament this week, they’ve debated some new laws they would like to bring in and have been learning about how MPs are elected into the House of Commons

UK Parliament Week activities are sparking lots of interesting questions, discussions and research in Class Oak this afternoon. We’ve covered many topics, from finding out how laws are made, to understanding who’s who in the House of Commons. #UKPW

Year 6 enjoyed a ‘sweet’ start to the day, using Skittles to put our multiplying and dividing fraction skills in to practice. Great work Class Oak! 🍬
